Collection Services Assistant - Part-Time

About the Role

This position assists in the timely processing of patron requests for the library system. This position primarily handles the processing of Interlibrary Loan borrowing and lending requests. Individuals in this position can expect to spend 70% of their time assisting with Interlibrary Loan operations and 30% of their time processing materials.

Start Date & Location: December 9, 2024 / 116 Brown Industrial Parkway, Canton, GA 30114

 

Salary & Benefits: $12.00 per hour

 

Schedule: Part-Time, 17 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Work schedule will vary and flexibility is required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and perform Interlibrary Loan operations (including but not limited to using WorldShare,

  • processing Interlibrary Loan requests,  check-in, check-out, renew, place holds, process holds, financial transactions, communicating with patrons and other libraries,  recordkeeping, etc.)

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of the library automation system in use and specific knowledge of the operations that apply to Interlibrary Loan and Circulation procedures.

  • Assist in physical processing of library materials including but not limited to applying mylar, laminating, and printing and affixing labels and bookplates.

  • Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization and maintain current knowledge, trends and development through continuing education.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 1 year job related experience, preferably working with the public in a customer service or library-related field.

  • 2 years post-secondary education is preferred.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Skills reflecting a high level of comfort with technology.

  • Ability to focus on specific work tasks with a high level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to perform basic math; understand and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to deal tactfully with staff and the public; to communicate effectively with supervisor, staff and the public.

  • Ability to understand and perform library procedures.

 

Physical Requirements: 

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs’ functions require significant lifting, carrying,

pushing and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling and/or crouching; stand and/or sit for prolonged

periods of time; manipulate and lift up to 30lbs. Duties require prolonged use of computer screen display and keyboard, as well as using hands to finger, handle, or feel materials. Work performed in a climate controlled environment.
