Information Technology Director
About the Role
The IT Director is responsible for maintaining the library system’s work flow and keeps its lines of communication open; and is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of multi-user computers, such as servers. Individuals in this position prioritize making time for intentional reflection in regards to their role and direct reports, identify innovative solutions to team hurdles, effectively frame change to staff with a forward-thinking and positive mindset, and actively pursue resolution when conflict arises. The Information Technology Director can expect to spend 5% of their time in the community or traveling, 10% of their time working with vendors, 25% of their time working at branch locations, and 60% of their time completing managerial and leadership tasks.

Salary & Benefits:
$60,000 - $70,000 Annually, Paid Annual Leave, Sick Leave & Holidays. State Health Benefit Plan, Flexible Benefits and Teacher Retirement System
Schedule:
Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Typical schedule is daytime hours, with possible evening and weekend hours. Flexibility is required.
Responsibilities:

Develop technology plans, assessments, strategies, and processes for purchasing technology for the system.

Continually evaluate staff, community and user technology needs and respond to changes.

Prepare the budget for purchase recommendations based on the technology planAdhere to the library’s established rules and procedures for purchasing, including procurement rules and bidding processes.

Establish and adhere to hardware and software replacement plans with a 3–5 year refresh cycle.

Acts as administrator for LAN/WAN.

Prepare a Request for Proposal (RFP) to support sound purchase decisions.

Identify and negotiate with technology vendors to obtain products and equipment that best meet the needs of the users.

Leverage consortia and statewide procurement options.

Maintain accurate records and inventory of IT equipment within the department and system.

Understand and lead the processes for and implications of applying for government funding programs (LibTech, E-RATE, LSTA, Universal Service discounts).

Assess technology trends that will affect the library and its users and advise all appropriate administration.

Provide training and support to staff and public on how to use the library systems technology (hardware, software, and networks).

Demonstrate advanced understanding of the library’s automation system (OPAC, circulation, catalog, etc.) and develop working relationships with internal library staff and ILS vendor support.

Understand enterprise systems in use in parent organization and integrate library systems and services where appropriate and efficient.

Manage the complexities of operating system upgrades on servers and workstations as appropriate.

Install, configure and maintain all telecommunications, software, and hardware

Plan, coordinate, and implement best practices to ensure maximum protection of library systems

Develop, implement and communicate policies and practices to determine the needs for public access computers, wireless access and programs.

Manage software applications for staff and other nonpublic computers and provide administration for optimum performance.

Provide technical support to end users over email, phone, and in person, helping end users diagnose and resolve issues.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.

Minimum of 5 years of IT experience in the technology field with preferred experience in a supervisory or management role in an IT setting with related experience of network management and monitoring services such as TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS.

Experience with desktop management, hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.

Experience administering server-client, web-based applications, and basic relational databases in a Windows server or higher environment.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require an ability to lift and transport moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals up to 50 pounds. Duties require the ability to occasionally inspect cables in floors and ceilings. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Work performed in a climate controlled environment. Duties require frequent travel to libraries within the system.
