The Pickens County Library Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting

Sequoyah Regional Library System (SRLS) celebrated the official opening of the Pickens County Library on Thursday, May 11 with a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony hosted by the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce. 

“What excited me most about the event was the absolute reflection of the Pickens County Library’s role in the community,” says Angela Cortellino, Executive Director of SRLS.  “Those in attendance shared memories of the library they used to know and excitement for the new space and how the community will be able to use the expanded library.” 

Speakers in attendance included Amberle Godfrey, President & CEO, Pickens County Chamber of Commerce, Steve Lawrence, Mayor of the City of Jasper, Kris Stancil, Pickens County Commissioner Chairman, Kayla Hollifield, Pickens County Library Board of Trustees Chairwoman, & Representative Rick Jasperse.

The Pickens County Library relocated to a temporary space in May 2021 while the primary space underwent construction. Partial funding of $1,800,000 for this project was made possible by the Pickens County’s SPLOST program. With support from Representative Rick Jasperse and Senator Steve Gooch, the Sequoyah Regional Library System (SRLS) applied and received from the State a $2,000,000 Capital Outlay Grant, administered by the Georgia Public Library Service, to fund the remaining portion. The project received a second Capital Outlay Grant for FY24, for the amount of $175,000. These grants are funded by the sale of bonds and must be approved by the state legislature. 

“We appreciate the overwhelming amount of support we received during the renovation,” continued Cortellino, “and we are thankful to everyone who joined us during the ribbon cutting and celebrated alongside us.”

Pickens County Library full service hours:

Monday – Thursday: 9:00am – 8:00pm

Friday – Saturday: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Sunday: 2:00pm – 6:00pm
