Facilities Assistant – R. T. Jones Memorial Library/Headquarters

This position is a committed, knowledgeable individual who performs basic and routine maintenance tasks at all library facilities, ensures regular maintenance of library vehicles, and serves as the library courier transporting library materials and supplies between library facilities.

Pay Rate & Benefits:

$15.75 per hour

Schedule:

Full-Time, 25 hours per week. Typical work schedule is Monday – Friday.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Performs directed maintenance at all library facilities.

  • Deliver, assemble, and set up furniture and equipment as assigned. 

  • Ensures regular maintenance of library vehicles by inspecting, cleaning, and scheduling repairs as needed; maintains vehicle service records.

  • Transport library materials and supplies between libraries. 

  • Drive, load, and unload courier vehicle.

  • Drive a scheduled pickup and delivery route.

  • Clean and care for the assigned vehicle.

  • Perform light maintenance and minor repairs as needed.

  • Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization.

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Comparable work experience is highly desirable. Working under minimal supervision independently using standardized procedures. This position will handle confidential information and financial deposits.
  • Valid State of Georgia driver’s license and good driving record.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills including the ability to type, operate a computer and navigate the internet.

  • Ability to perform basic math; understand and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to deal tactfully with staff and the public; to communicate effectively with supervisor, staff, and the public.

  • Ability to focus on specific work tasks with a high level of attention to detail.

  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire, and security systems.

  • Working knowledge of common tools, appliances, and devices; manual dexterity; problem-solving skills; the flexibility to work independently and collaborate with others; ability to communicate effectively.

 

Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs’ functions require significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing; frequent stooping, kneeling and/or crouching; stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time; manipulate and lift up to 50 lbs; ability to climb ladders. Duties require use of computer screen display and keyboard. Work performed in a climate controlled environment as well as outside work. Requires travel as necessary.

Youth Services Specialist – R. T. Jones Memorial Library

This position organizes library services for youth ages 0-12, including information assistance, collection services and programming (including story times, after-school programs and summer reading programs). This position also works with branch staff to provide services to families and all ages.  The position interacts directly with the public to provide quality customer service.  This position provides the best possible programs and services to help support the learning needs of youth, and their families, schools and caregivers. This customer focused position anticipates and meets the needs of users in the most visible way and provides circulation assistance.

Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Schedule includes a combination of daytime, evening, and weekend hours.  Work schedule will vary and flexibility is required. Youth services staff should coordinate time-off with programming calendar and summer reading programs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and evaluate a wide variety of programs and services appropriate to the identified interests and developmental needs of children requiring skills in program presentation and development.
  • Demonstrate creativity, openness to new ideas, knowledge of a variety of tools and techniques and a sense of humor.
  • Promote youth library services directly to children through school visits, library tours, etc., and through engaging caregivers, educators and other youth-serving community partners.
  • Utilize promotional techniques to attract and invite children and caregivers to use the collection and spaces.
  • Promote awareness of youth services to other staff members.
  • Assist at the service desk and provides staff support as needed.

 

Qualifications:

Requires High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year job related experience; preferably working with the public in a customer service or retail field.
Bilingual ability is a plus in serving a diverse community.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with the public and/or customer service field experience preferred.
  • Experience supervising staff is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a library/or working with children is preferred.

Service Associate, Part-Time – Cherokee County

This is a continual position application. The library will accept applications even when positions are not available. Applications are held for 6 months and applicants will be contacted only to schedule an interview.

Part-Time, 17 hours per week. Work schedule will vary and flexibility is required. Schedule will include a combination of day, evening and weekend hours.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver quality customer service, greeting the public in a welcoming, professional manner.

  • Use of library automation system and implementing circulation procedures.
  • Understand and perform circulation operations for all library materials.
  • Understand and perform procedures for shelving, shifting and shelf reading.
  • Assist the public in locating, selecting, and using resources.
  • Proactively interact with the public to ascertain what they need and ensure they find it.
  • Ensure proper order of books, and neat orderly appearance of public areas.
  • Enter data in library automation system or other software, maintaining confidential records and circulation databases.
  • Handle financial transactions, count money and make change accurately.
