Pickens County Library Delay Lift
January 26, 2023
Sequoyah Regional Library System (SRLS) has announced that the Pickens County Library, which has undergone renovation and expansion since summer of 2021, is on track to reopen to the public in the spring of 2023. While the project experienced a brief delay due to issues relating to the supply chain and lead times, the Pickens County Library will welcome members of the community to its newly renovated building located at 100 Library Lane this spring.
“We have had a few bumps during this process, the majority of which have been supply chain issues,” says Angela Cortellino, Executive Director of SRLS. “I am excited to share that the project is back on track, and we are hopeful to reopen to the public in late April or May. The majority of remaining work is all internal. It is work that could not be completed until our space was conditioned. It is our goal to open the doors as quickly as possible, but we certainly want to ensure that when we do open the doors, the building is fully ready for community use. We are excited to move through these final months efficiently with Hogan Construction.”
The finished renovation will include the addition of 8,200 square feet to the building. With an expanded and renovated library facility, the Pickens community will have more space for books and technology; larger areas for programs, meetings, collaboration, and creation; and additional seating for study and quiet reading.
A temporary, limited-service library location called “Pickens Grab & Go” is available inside the Mountain Education Charter High School building, located at 339 West Church Street, while the Pickens County Library building, located at 100 Library Lane, is closed to the public. At Pickens Grab & Go, library patrons can check out and return materials, place and pick up library holds, request interlibrary loans, pay fines, and browse a selection of items from the library’s collection. Additionally, two express computer stations are available for users to access Wi-Fi, print, and make copies.
The Pickens County Library renovation and expansion project is being handled by Hogan Construction Group.
