Board of Trustees The Sequoyah Regional Library System is governed by the Regional Library Board of Trustees, composed of nine members from the local county boards. Appointments to the Regional Board includes five members from the Cherokee Board, two members from the Pickens Board and two members from the Gilmer Board. < Back Sequoyah Regional Library System Receives Great Stories Grant Jul 5, 2023 The Sequoyah Regional Library System has been selected by the American Library Association (ALA), with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as one of 58 libraries to receive implementation grants for the Great Stories Club, a thematic reading and discussion program for underserved teens. The two awarded grants include “Deeper Than Our Skins: The Present Is a Conversation with the Past” and “Finding Your Voice: Speaking Truth to Power”. As part of the Great Stories Club, staff from SRLS will work with a small group of teens to read and discuss stories that explore questions of race, equity, identity and history. The titles were selected to inspire young people — especially those facing difficult circumstances or challenges — to consider “big questions” about the world around them and their place in it. SRLS will receive two $500 programming stipends, one per theme, and 11 copies of each of the selected books. The books will be gifted to the book club participants. Since 2006, ALA’s Great Stories Club has helped libraries engage young adults with accessible, thought-provoking literature. This frontline position anticipates and meets the needs of users in the most visible way; interacting directly with the public to provide quality customer service, providing timely assistance and responding to a variety of requests. Individuals in this position can expect to spend 20% of their time assisting the public from a library service point, 20% of their time assisting with circulation/collection maintenance, and 60% of their time preparing and implementing library programs. Assist at service points and provide staff support as needed. Guide and assist the public in the use of technology and library tools. Create booklists, read-alikes, and other readers advisory tools to appeal to children. Maintain and report statistics related to programs as required. Provide a monthly schedule of programs for inclusion in system wide promotional materials in a timely manner. Promote current library services and programs. Work with supervisor to inform branch staff of changes in programs. Provide supervision for part-time staff as needed. Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization and maintain current knowledge, trends and development through continuing education. Qualifications: Requires High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year job-related experience; preferably working with the public in a customer service or retail field. Bilingual ability is a plus in serving a diverse community. Skills & Abilities: Skills in program presentation and speaking in public. Skills reflecting a high level of comfort with technology. Ability to perform basic math. Understand and follow written and oral instructions. SRLS News Hickory Flat Public Library Update August 30, 2023 Sequoyah Regional Library System has announced that construction of the Hickory Flat Public Library Renovation and Expansion project, which broke ground in January of 2023, is currently scheduled to be completed in early 2024.“The next steps include framing, exterior walls, and windows,” says Angela Cortellino, Executive Director of SRLS. “With the work that has been completed in the past few weeks, the building is really starting to take shape.”A majority of the site work has been completed, including utility lines and new building pads that will extend the square footage of the building for expanded youth, programming, and teen spaces. The finished renovation will include an addition of 7,800 square feet to the building. With an expanded and renovated library facility, the SRLS community will have more space for books and technology; larger areas for programs, meetings, collaboration, and creation; and additional seating for study and quiet reading. The Hickory Flat Public Library building will be closed to the public for the entirety of the construction. During the construction, community members can still access SRLS programs and services by visiting any of the neighboring libraries in Cherokee, Pickens, and Gilmer counties. Designed by CAS Architecture, the Hickory Flat Library Renovation and Expansion construction is being completed by Hollandsworth Construction.

Interlibrary Loans Interlibrary loan service enables patrons of one library to borrow physical materials that are held by another library. Request Limit There is a limit of three (3) active ILLs/requests per patron at any given time. Holds on interlibrary loan materials are included in the standard hold limit. Loan Period: Materials are generally loaned for two (2) weeks. The loan period may vary depending on the material and the lending library. All loans should be picked up promptly. Materials Unavailable For Interlibrary Loan Requests Our libraries will do our best to request the books that you request through the Interlibrary Loan system but there are some restrictions. Here is a short list of the items that SRLS is unable to request: Titles published within the current year or not yet published. Titles on current local or national bestseller lists Rare and valuable books as well as reference genealogy titles that are non-circulating. Non-print materials such as CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes and videos, eBooks. Renewals of Interlibrary Loans are granted by the lending library. Renewals are not automatic and must be requested from the Public Services Specialist at your library at least one (1) week before the materials are due. Borrowers may request one (1) renewal. Renewals/Extensions Fees Fees: Patrons are responsible for all charges pertaining to their Interlibrary Loan. Overdue Interlibrary Loans are fined $0.50 per day. If a borrower authorizes the library to obtain material from a library that charges a lending fee, the patron is responsible for paying the fee. Borrowers are responsible for any charges for materials lost or damaged while checked out to the borrower. The lending library determines the cost for any lost or damaged material. Borrowers are responsible for all postage charges for loans. Check-Out & Returns Any Interlibrary Loans currently on your account can be checked-out and returned by visiting your local library. 3D Printing Please review the 3D Printer Policy and Guidelines for Use before submitting a request. Reserve to use one of our 3D printers! Hands-on 3D printer use is available to SRLS cardholders ages 18 and older. Policy: 3D Printers are available to the public to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request. The Library’s 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes. The public will not be permitted to use the Library’s 3D printers to create material that is: Prohibited by local, state or federal law. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others. (Such use may violate the terms of use of the manufacturer.) Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment. In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection. Users must complete a 3D Print Request Form before their print job is accepted. Print jobs must be under three hours, unless approved by library administration. Only Library staff or patrons with a completed user waiver will have hands-on access to the 3D printers. Cost per gram is posted prominently near the machines and is established by the County Library Board of Trustees which may change the fee at any time by action of the Board of Trustees. Guidelines for Use (Library Staff Led 3D Print Request): Complete a 3D Print Request Form before print job is started. Print jobs more than 3 hours may not be available for immediate print. Cost of printing will be 15 cents per gram minimum charge of $3.00 per each print job. You will be notified when your print job is complete. Items printed will be picked up within 7 days during regularly scheduled library hours, after which they will become property of the Library. Items must be picked up by the individual who requested the print job. Print time will be scheduled by library staff. PLEASE NOTE: A “complete” print job does not always mean “successful.” The library will still notify you of completion even if it does not come out perfectly. Reprints will only be available in the event of machine malfunction. Failed prints due to errors within the 3D model (print file submitted) will still be charged for materials used. All print jobs are pending until approved by library staff. This collection is designed to showcase local writers, especially those whose books are not yet widely-reviewed or stocked by libraries and bookstores.
