Sequoyah Regional Library System Debuts 2022-2024 Strategic Plan

Sequoyah Regional Library System (SRLS) has debuted its 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, created to supplant its previous Strategic Plan which was implemented during 2019-2021. The new Strategic Plan outlines six goals (with accompanying strategies for each) which SRLS will pursue for the benefit of its organization and the community as a whole. A new Strategic Plan is implemented within the Sequoyah Regional Library System every three years.

Among the six goals outlined is a recurring theme of increased community outreach, which includes the creation of an Outreach Manager Position and expanded external marketing efforts to raise the percentage of library card holders to 40% of the population served by SRLS. The library system also declares its intent to foster greater relationships with funding agencies and local leaders, while also aligning its efforts with the growth and progress of the community and establishing the library as a gathering place for all members of the community. Additionally, SRLS will devote resources to record and leverage stories of positive community impact by the library to be used in external marketing and advocacy.

The 2022-2024 Strategic Plan was created based on exercises conducted during a Staff Development Day in May 2021, Staff Reverse Strategic Planning, and survey results gathered between August and September of 2021. In August and September, the library system surveyed four stakeholder groups: Community Members, Funding Agencies, Trustees, and Staff. The Community Member survey was open for two weeks and received 1,143 responses. The Funding Agency Survey was open for four weeks and received 19 responses. The Staff Survey was open for one week and received 49 responses. The Trustee Survey was open for three weeks and received 20 responses.

“The results of these surveys helped in the development of our 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, but there is much more to be gleaned from the responses”, says Anita Summers, Executive Director of the Sequoyah Regional Library System. “We received an overwhelming amount of feedback and are dedicated to treating the input with care and concern.”
